OnTracktoRio- Victoria Ohuruogu

Tracktics first female athlete comes in Victoria Ohuruogu. Sister of Beijing 2008 Olympic Champion Christine. Victoria has shown glimpses of the 400m talent her sister holds winning national championships.
Although it is clear the sister love is there, we spoke to Victoria about not being known as just Christine's sister but who she is and what she hopes to achieve sport.

Tracktics: Victoria thank you for taking part in our feature OnTracktoRio tell our readers about yourself?

Thanks for having me! I'm 20 years old, and I do the 400m. I run for Newham and Essex Beagles and I've been doing Athletics since I was about 14/15.

Tracktics: What have you achieved on the Track in the so many years you have been involved with athletics and what do you regard as your greatest achievement from that?
I don't feel like I've accomplished that much of a great deal to be honest, 2011-2012 I was out of competition. But in 2010 I was picked to represent Team GB at the Youth Olympics in Singapore, which was pretty cool.

Tracktics: What would you say makes you different from athletes that has got you to the standard you are today?
Haha, I'm not sure what 'standard' you speak of, but I know that right now, compared to say, previous years I feel like I have a lot more focus to get things done, such as training! I know that I'm more disciplined.

(Extremely modest- Aviva English school Champion 2010 & ranked number one for her age group!)

Tracktics: At the age of 20 do you see Rio as an aim in your career and if so what would be a realistic achievement?
I don't think that Rio is an unrealistic achievement, but I've never really thought about it. I don't want to think about it right now. It may seem only 3 years away, but that's 3 years of competing, and anything could happen. I need to get through this year first, so I can assess what happens next/what to aim for etc.

Tracktics: You've said in the past you want to be known more than Christine's sister do you think Rio is the perfect place to prove that?
Ha, I'm not so sure about that, I reckon whatever I achieve I'll still be known as Christine's sister...Until I beat her haha.

Tracktics: What do you do outside of the Track?
Outside of track, I attend University Arts of London (Wimbledon), where I study Sculpture. I'm into the whole 'art thing'. Exhibitions, reading, films, all that stuff.

Tracktics: Who has been your idol on the Track and how have they inspired you?
I don't really have an idol per se, but I look up to my sister quite a lot. She has a great work ethic, it's nice to train with her. She won't cut me any slack, which can be annoying (a lot of the time) but ultimately, I love her for it.

Tracktics: Finally if there was a message you could give to upcoming athletes what would it be?
My message to upcoming athletes in whatever you do, work hard at it, go for it. I think with something like Athletics It's better to not do it at all, rather than do it half hearted. Commitment, is what I'm trying to get at.

If you wish to look at Victoria's impressive Athlete's profile despite what she might say!

And MSN saw Victoria as the one to watch in 2012
